  • AdComp: Facility on the moon developed to house the General Assembly as well as various research tools.
  • AG (Atmospheric Genera): a species resembling the Sigen, but where the psychogenics are gathered from the atmosphere rather than produced by two Sigens.
  • aggie(s): derogatory slang term for AGs
  • Bavishite(s): humans exiled from the outer sector to the planet Yiven.
  • Berant: an asteroid in the outer sector—source for the energy ore, tocris, used on New Esrii.
  • CO (Compliance Officer): - the robotic police force.
  • dallier: a Term who derives income by attending the sexual needs of others—a respected position.
  • Defender: robotic Military police; with more advanced programming than Compliance Officers.
  • enja(s): slang for anyone (mostly Terms) who lives in non-junction city (see NJC).
  • Fundament: the place where the chrysalides are housed as psychogen infants develop, and the school for early learning through Prep level.
  • General Assembly: the governing body for the planet New Esrii, with representatives from each county.
  • harnessing towers: units that extend into the lower atmosphere to investigate and capture noetics.
  • Hushra Seminary: the oldest Seminary on the planet.
  • inner sector: the space on the sun (Sol) side of the solar fault.
  • Izmir: a satellite that monitors space activities of the inner sector.
  • juncker(s): derogatory word enjas use for people who live New Esrii's major cities.
  • junction city: the government-recognized cities and towns located in designated counties.
  • Krellanon: small outer sector planet conducive for agriculture, but not for continuous human activity.
  • Lambda2: the secondary star in a neighboring binary system that affects the Sol system.
  • Life Partners: Sigen who contract to live together for the purpose of creating a new life.
  • MAR (Mental Achievement Ranking): the measure of status in the outer sector culture.
  • New Esrii: the planet on which humans live in the outer sector.
  • NJC (non-junction city): towns populated mostly by Terms.
  • Omace: a large outer-sector planet with good atmosphere, but in a state of continual upheaval. Also the source of the mega-metal, talsi.
  • outer sector: the space on the galaxy side of the solar fault.
  • Prep: the secondary schools.
  • Sage: honorific for an exemplary aged scholar.
  • Scholar: a person who has completed two levels of achievement, usually with an MAR above 57.
  • Secolems: A group, mostly defunct, that resists changes.
  • Seminary: the six academic institutions that deal with biological and metaphysical sciences.
  • Sigen: the dominant birth type, developed from psychogenic input created by two people and housed in laboratory-engendered bodies.
  • Sol: the sun of this galaxy—inner and outer sectors.
  • solar fault: the space anomaly that separates the galaxy into inner and outer sectors.
  • strellic(s): psychogenic transfer from the physical form to ethereal existence (out of body experience). Only a few scholars have done this in a controlled and purposeful way.
  • strellogy: the body of theory concerned with the dynamics of phenomenology and consciousness, especially out-of-body-experience.
  • Supreme: the title given to the leader of the Yivenese government; also the reverent title for Timaht (see below).

  • Yivenese: the aboriginal sentient life forms on Yiven.
  • Zip: the truncated spoken language of long-time space workers.
